Exploring a multi-agency system - requisite variety, complexity, systems laws and a bit of a whack
Multiple Disadvantage is a systemic issue - yet the prevailing narrative can be one of individual choice. Multiple disadvantage is also almost an exclusively multi-agency issue. Combine this perceptual and structural complexity and it becomes a little bit tricky to try and sort out.
Here we take a heavy dose of requisite variety, add some complexity balancing, blend in some [other] systems laws, serve on a bed of VSM, cross the fingers and hope someone likes it.
We also observe Gavin’s 1st rule of systems thinking; “the first rule of systems thinking is you do not talk about systems thinking”.
We will explore:
- diagnosing the heart of the issue
- understanding what this means for both clients and ‘the system’
- what options there are
- what systems laws can tell us about the situation.
