Our first in person meeting in Trinity College Dublin, where we focus on closing the gap between academic and practitioner-led research using a systems thinking lens.

Systemic research and Action research are two traditions of practice-and action-oriented research with a shared ancestry - for example, both have common roots in the foundational work of psychologist Kurt Lewin, and a range of other scholars who influenced both fields. Both have much in common, such as a focus on social change and practice, and draw on similar methodologies, methods and tools. They also have distinctive differences.

Action research grounded in a systemic worldview can ensure that interrelationships, multiple perspectives, and critical boundary decisions are taken into account in designing and carrying out practical inquiries into complex social issues or governance issues within organisations, communities or research projects.

Join Dr. Vivienne Brady (Assistant Professor, School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin) and Prof. Dr. David Coghlan (Prof. Emeritus at Trinity Business School, Trinity College Dublin) for a conversation with SCiO Ireland members about how both approaches can help you to develop systemically informed action research that can enhance your ability to advocate on a social justice issue or transform your organisation, community or research project.
