Practical Application of Systems Thinking to Enterprise Design

May 2025

Organisations are “social activity systems”.  People come together and create a system to produce products and services for other people to benefit from, either for the purposes of financial and/or social gain. This talk is about how we design these systems and on the discipline of Business Architecture and Target Operating Model design, or what is often today referred to as “Enterprise Design”.

The application of Systems Thinking is a key feature of Enterprise Design.  The talk will explore its practical application within this context and lead into a discussion on how Systems Thinking can be better applied going forward to help build robust and effective organisations, in what are increasingly challenging times, and are set to be even more so in the future.

Tim's talk is based on almost 30 years of experience as a practicing Business Architect, during which time he has applied Systems Thinking to the design of numerous organisations.
