Abstract:
Health & Safety, the derogatory term used to describe everything associated with preventing work from being done. Why is this so? Because the clipboard wielding, hi-viz wearing workplace safety inspectors with limited emotional intelligence (or actual capabilities to do a real job) have been trained in the application of systematic rules and procedures. Unfortunately, this focus on compliance to Health and Safety Laws, contravenes many of the systems thinking Laws. This discussion will compare the systematic verses the systemic approaches in risk management to highlight the contemporary failings, and explore the opportunities in reframing the purpose of safety.
